ICTandclimatechange.com at the International Telecommunications Union

ICTandclimatechange.com participated as a moderator in the second ITU Symposium on ICTs and Climate Change, in London on 17-18 June 2008. Hosted by BT, this event is part of a major new ITU initiative to investigate the role that information and communication technologies (ICTs) play in global warming, but also how they can be used to monitor, mitigate and adapt to climate change. The London symposium follows the first symposium, held in Kyoto 15-16 April, with around 250 participants. The website for these two events is at: http://www.itu.int/ITU-T/climatechange

ICTandClimateChange.com, quoted in '3G Wireless Broadband', 3 September 2008, talking about the difficulty of comparing carbon footprints of differing telcos,
"(Telcos) tend to favour different metrics according to their own conditions. It is a very strategic question. It is not a coincidence that it is difficult to compare."

Jeremy Green: quoted in Australia's sustainable telecoms publication, 'Green Telecom', 13 November 2007,

"The telecoms industry has the potential to be a hero in the fight against climate change," says Jeremy Green, Ovum's Principal Analyst for Enterprise Mobility and member of the team behind a specialized consultancy group, ICTandclimatechange.com.

"Unlike other industries, telecoms can be part of the solution and help dematerialize and decarbonize other sectors of the economy. Services such as video conferencing to replace long haul travel, telecommuting, and systems optimization can all reduce overall carbon emissions.
